Why are you doing Crossfit?
To stay strong as I get older and to avoid osteoporosis. I also do it for the community. I have met so many inspirational people since I began Crossfit.
What got you started doing Crossfit?
I started doing Crossfit because it sounded like fun. A co-worker was talking about knees to elbows, toes to bar, and pull-ups. I thought that I’d love to do those things. I also wanted to build my upper body strength for a climb up Mt Whitney.
Why do you stay with it? Stopping would be disastrous.
Why you Crossfit and what do you like most about it.
I like the feeling of strength I have after really difficult WODs. I also like the feeling of community we have at the box.
We all have goals-what are you working towards?
Becoming a better coach as well as increasing my strength. I would love to one day do a muscle up.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I began in 2011.
How do you get through and what is the most difficult/frustrating WOD.
The most frustrating thing for me is being patient with myself and realizing it takes time to see progress. It’s pretty infuriating when I know I can do something (like double-unders) but struggle to be consistent with them.
What workout really gets you excited when you walk into the box?
Any workout with handstand push-ups or pistols.
Your favorite CrossFit movement and your most dreaded CF movement
Favorite - gymnastic movements. Dreaded - overhead squats or burpee box jumps.
What eating plans do you follow and what is your typical "go to" meal/snack?
I have been using the zone diet to prepare most of my meals. I admit to cheating on occasion.
What is your favorite cheat?
Skinny pop popcorn.
What made you want to get your L1?
I was getting ready to retire from teaching and thought it would be a challenge. I have always enjoyed helping those new to Crossfit get started.
What certifications or specialties do you have? (CrossFit or Other, School sports played?)
L1, Spot the Flaw. Ran track in high school
What do you do when you're not Crossfitting?
I enjoy xc-skiing, skate skiing, and downhill skiing. I do a little running and occasionally run half marathons or 15ks. In the summer I enjoy camping and hiking. I read at least 3 books a week.
