FAQs

Why are you doing crossfit?
I am doing CrossFit because I need to maintain an active lifestyle. Exercise has always been my stress reducer! Plus, I love the relationships I have made with everyone at the box. It’s my happy place!
What got you started doing Crossfit?
I was on the swim team all four years of college and when I graduated college I knew I would need something to keep me active but I was never a fan of going to the Y or planet fitness doing workouts alone. I wanted something that would challenge me and motivate me to keep going. It was John’s sister Kate that really sparked my interest in CrossFit. I remember I wouldn’t do it unless John started with me.
Why do you stay with it?
I stay with CrossFit because I love the way it makes me feel. I am much happier and less stressed when I get a good workout in!
Why do you Crossfit and what do you like most about it?
Again, CrossFit makes me happy. One of the things I enjoy most about CrossFit has been the coaching aspect. It feels really good when I feel like I am making a difference in people's fitness journey. My favorite moments have been when other people get PR’s or do something they never thought they could accomplish. Sharing those moments is the best!
We all have goals-what are you working towards?
I always have a goal to work on mechanics and really clean up my olympic lifting. I would like to more confident in the squat snatch and other overhead movements. My current goals are to become more consistent in ring muscle ups and learn the butterfly pull-up technique.
How long have you been doing Crossfit?
I started in 2015.
How do you get through/what is the most difficult/frustrating WOD?
There is really no rhyme or reason to what makes me get through a workout. I just do it. The only workout that stands out to me as being the most difficult/frustrating was 18.3 because I had recently learned the ring muscle up but wasn't able to deliver in the workout. It was a good reality check! Plus I tend to be really hard on myself during workouts and that can make or break me.
What workout really gets you excited when you walk into the box?
The best workouts seem to be the ones that I dread and get nervous butterflies just thinking about it. Workouts that I underestimate my ability but shock myself by doing well. That always makes me want to go back for more.
What is your favorite CrossFit movement and your most dreaded CF movement?
I like lots of movements! I think my favorite is the power clean. Bar muscle ups are also pretty great, but still working on stringing those together. My most dreaded CrossFit movement is probably box jumps...especially bad with burpees in the mix...I also don’t enjoy rope climbs because I’m terrified of heights! I usually choose strict pull-ups over rope climbs in a workout just for that reason.
What eating plans do you follow and what is your typical "go to" meal/snack?
I have never followed an eating plan until the last lifestyle challenge. I have the biggest sweet tooth! I used to always eat candy before the workout. I followed zone during the lifestyle challenge and still mostly incorporate that eating style into my daily life. I have found that being on a super strict diet just doesnt make me happy. I need my occasional dessert. My go to snack is either an apple with peanut butter or cheese sticks. I also eat a lot of turkey bacon and ground turkey/beef.
What is your favorite cheat?
My favorite meal is the nachos form 86 This! With the pushed chicken and house jalapeno hot sauce. Ugh my mouth is watering just thinking about it! So good. Mortons Moo ice cream to follow is also mandatory.
What made you want to get your L1?
I signed John up for the L1 last summer for his birthday. After he was registered Kate, his sister, signed up too. After thinking about it for a few days I decided it makes sense for me to go take the course too because I went to college for physical education. I really didn't have any initial intentions to coach, I was doing it more for my own knowledge and experience. But, coaching has been the best and it has really helped my own performance.
What certifications or specialties do you have? (CrossFit or Other, School sports played?)
CrossFit L1. I have also taken two online course through CrossFit. The scaling course and spot the flaw course. I am also PADI scuba diving certified. Bachelors of Science in Physical Education. Lifeguard certified.
What kind of things do you see that you hope to help correct?
I see a lot of people get upset when they see other people doing things that they can't do yet. I hope to help people refocus on their own goals and fitness levels and be proud of what they can accomplish. We all have that competitive nature which is a great thing but I have also seen it bring people down.
Why did you start coaching and why are you continuing to coach?
I started coaching because I wanted to be more involved in the box community. I also wanted and continue to coach to provide Nick and Jamie the opportunity to have a life outside of the box and enjoy their time with family.
What hobbies do you have?
I like to be outside! In the summer I work at Clifton dock in Northeast Harbor. I enjoy any and all water activities. Swimming, snorkeling, boating! In high school and college I competed in some triathlons and open water swims.
What is your favorite color?
Blue!
What do you do when you're not crossfitting?
I work in special education as an Ed Tech at MDI high school. When I’m not at the box John and I will either be working on our house in Trenton, in Rockwood at his parents camp, or visiting my family in Cape Elizabeth. John and I like to travel. We recently got back from Grand Cayman Island. We now have a wedding to plan too!
